99/1 Against the Odds

He left the ninety-nine

His heart to realign

with the hope to find

the sheep astray,

“Adam, where are you?”

is all that He could now say.

To its own shame

it wandered away that day,

in dismay, he didn’t stay in the fold,

but walked alone into the cold

and told his soul,

he had lost control never to be full

 in the Shepherds hold.

But the toll is taken

made him feel forsaken,

 just a mistake

that was tossed and shaken

in a nightmare that could

 not be awakened,

smeared in the mire,

burned by the fire,

 cut from thorns,

 drenched in the storms

 of a furious spiral,

frightful and mindful of only woe,

would this be his final blow,

 losing his vital hope

 to the land unknown?

Then came a hand

that seemed to understand

 and wrap under him,

 made him shudder then,

and lift him out of the thunder

 inside his head,

pulling close into his arms to hide,

with a tender touch, this was the Lamb

 that the Father had

loved so much.
